The next day we left the Hot Water Beach area with the intent to go to Matamata. This is where you can find the Hobbiton movie set. Naturally this was something I was looking forward to immensely. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling too hot that day but nothing would ruin my experience of seeing the set up close and personal. It was everything that I could of possibly hoped for.
The tour lasted two hours and covered all the memorable places such as Bag End, the party tree, the party field, Sam's hobbit hole, the Green Dragon, and everything between. All the holes were extremely detailed on the outside which was the only area that was shown on film. The inside of the holes were essentially nothing since all the filming of the insides of the holes was done in a studio.
Some people said the tour wasn't worth the trip, but I will never forget the time I spent there. It was a memory worth making.
